Practical advice for navigating foreign lands: insights from virtual classes

On Monday, May 12, 2025, Mareike Boguet, a lawyer at ECC Germany, will kick off a digital lecture series titled "Focus Week Goals - New Ways. After School" with the first lecture, "Going abroad. How to prepare?" The second lecture is scheduled for a later date.

The series aims to inform young people planning a stay abroad this year, with parents also welcome to attend. The lectures will provide helpful tips for planning and organizing a stay abroad, covering topics such as administrative tasks, recommended insurances, accommodation considerations, the benefits of having an account abroad, and the continuation of child benefit entitlement.

The first lecture, which took place on May 12, 2025, from 5 to 6 pm, was followed by additional information material, including a YouTube video titled "Going abroad" in cooperation with the consumer center, an ECC brochure titled "Moving to an EU country" (PDF), and information on clarifying finances and insurance on the ECC website.

Mareike Boguet, a lawyer who practiced at the European Consumer Centre Germany, will lead the lectures. Participation in the lecture is free, and registration is required. A computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet access and sound output is required for participation.

The opportunities for gaining international experience include a year abroad, work and travel, voluntary service, or language courses. The website ourwebsite.com provides German-language information about life and work abroad. Contact information for the website includes [email protected] and a page about the website.

Other related topics covered in the series include collecting intercultural experiences with a voluntary service abroad, facts about the 30-year Erasmus program, and women traveling independently. Registration for the lecture "Going abroad. How to prepare?" on May 14, 2024, from 2 to 3 pm is required.

Individual questions can be asked via live chat during the lecture. Anyone planning a longer stay abroad should consider important topics such as documents, insurance, and finances at an early stage. The Consumer Center Rhineland-Palatinate and European Consumer Centre (ECC) Germany are hosting this digital lecture series.
