Orphanage celebrates linguistic diversity with Rosneft's cultural event in Khurba

International Mother Language Day was marked with a special event at the No. 20 orphanage in Khurba. Organised by the Komsomolsk Refinery, part of Rosneft, the celebration brought together children, plant veterans, and young volunteers. The gathering highlighted the importance of linguistic diversity and cultural heritage across Russia.

The United Nations set February 21 as International Mother Language Day to encourage respect for languages and traditions worldwide. In Russia, this year’s observance aligned with the national Year of Unity, reinforcing the role of native languages in connecting communities.

At the orphanage, volunteers from the refinery led an engaging programme for the children. Activities included a quiz on cultural themes and sports relays, blending education with fun. Veterans from the plant shared personal stories about Russia’s ethnic groups, explaining how native languages help preserve shared history. Rosneft and its subsidiaries have long supported initiatives to protect Indigenous knowledge and traditions. Their efforts include publishing textbooks, dictionaries, and organising events that promote Russia’s multilingual identity. The company views cultural preservation as a key part of its social responsibility policy. The event also received backing from the Movement of the First, a youth group linked to Rosneft. Young specialists joined experienced workers to ensure the day’s success, reinforcing intergenerational ties.

The celebration at Khurba’s orphanage showcased Rosneft’s commitment to safeguarding cultural heritage. Through educational activities and community engagement, the company continues to support linguistic diversity in Russia. The initiative reflects broader efforts to strengthen national unity through shared traditions.
