Heating crisis in Mezhdurechensk leaves residents in the cold after boiler failure
Residents in Mezhdurechensk, Udorsky District, are facing severe heating disruptions after an accident at a local boiler plant. Apartments have grown cold, forcing people to rely on electric heaters while repairs continue on the damaged equipment. The problem began when Boiler No. 2 at the Komi Heat Companyβs Mezhdurechensk facility failed. Investigations revealed that poor-quality wood chips caused the malfunction, leaving the system unable to supply heat to the area. As a result, the remaining Boiler No. 1 is now operating at full capacity, but it cannot meet demand alone.
With indoor temperatures dropping below sanitary standards, local schools have cut class times to just 30 minutes. A kindergarten in the district has also suspended operations until heating is restored. Residents using electric heaters are bracing for higher electricity bills as they wait for repairs. Technicians expect to complete fixes on Boiler No. 2 by February 28. Until then, the community remains affected by the ongoing outage.
The heating failure has disrupted daily life in Mezhdurechensk, from shortened school days to suspended kindergarten services. Repairs are underway, with the boiler plant aiming to restore full heating by the end of February.
