Minister Lucha Visits Modern Nursing School in Kornwestheim

Minister Manfred Lucha, the Minister for Social Affairs, Health, and Integration in Baden-Württemberg, recently visited the Vocational School for Nursing of RKH Clinics Ludwigsburg-Bietigheim in Kornwestheim on August 21, 2025. The visit was an opportunity to discuss the future of healthcare and nursing training in the region.

During the tour, Head of School Ursula Palmer presented Minister Lucha with the school's educational concept, regional network, and current challenges. The tour showcased the modern Skills Lab with patient simulators for realistic learning and nursing practice rooms for various care situations.

District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier and Axel Hechenberger, Commercial Manager of RKH Health, also discussed the future of healthcare and nursing training with Minister Lucha. Allgaier emphasized the challenges faced in healthcare, such as skilled labor shortage, underfunding, and investment backlog.

The development of nursing education in Kornwestheim is supported through close collaboration primarily between the Pflegeschule der RKH Kliniken in Kornwestheim and the health ministry. This collaboration was evident during Minister Lucha's visit to the modern nursing school, which aims to be an attractive and contemporary training center for future nursing professionals in the region.

Investments in the modernization of hospitals and the further development of nursing staff training were also discussed during the meeting. Minister Lucha praised the good work and commitment of nursing schools, institutions, and involved parties in achieving an increase in the number of new starts in generalist nursing training over the last two years.

Palmer attributes the school's success to its successful network, the quality of its training, and the further training of its teachers. She also highlighted the school's low dropout rate of 7%, compared to the average of 25%.

Hechenberger describes the nursing school in Kornwestheim as a modern and attractive training and exchange center for future nurses. He emphasizes the importance of politics, society, and training institutions working together to support nursing. Hechenberger considers the nursing school in Kornwestheim as a crucial foundation for training future nursing professionals.

District Administrator Allgaier's goals for the future of healthcare in the region include excellent medical care, a future-proof clinic network, and modern, practice-oriented training. Allgaier stated that the future of healthcare in the region will be shaped together with the state.

Minister Lucha expressed his gratitude to the nursing school during his visit.
