Free hotline launches to slash fuel bills for West Midlands residents
A new free hotline has launched to help West Midlands residents cut fuel bills and improve home heating. The service, called Warmer Homes West Midlands, offers advice to those struggling with high energy costs or living in cold, damp properties. It forms part of a wider plan to tackle fuel poverty and reduce carbon emissions across the region. The hotline is run by Act on Energy and backed by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). It provides support to households facing financial hardship or poor living conditions due to inefficient heating. Residents can call for guidance on lowering energy costs and making their homes warmer.
The initiative is part of the WMCA’s fuel poverty and regional retrofit partnership. Mayor Andy Street has pledged to retrofit 50,000 poorly insulated homes as part of the region’s climate emergency response. The goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2041, with a focus on improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions. Fuel poverty remains a significant issue in the West Midlands, where rates are the second-highest in England after the North West. The WMCA’s retrofitting programme aims to address this by making homes more fuel-efficient, cutting bills, and improving health outcomes for residents.
The free hotline is now available to all West Midlands residents needing help with heating costs or damp housing. The WMCA’s long-term plan includes retrofitting thousands of homes to meet climate targets. By 2041, the region aims to be carbon neutral while reducing fuel poverty and improving living standards.
