Emergency alert: Global safety firm, International SOS, urges businesses to expedite disaster readiness for upcoming 2025 hurricane season

In the face of an unusually active 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, International SOS, a global leader in health and security services, is urging companies in affected regions to review, test, and communicate their emergency plans with employees.

With nearly 13,000 experts ready at over 1,200 locations in 90 countries, International SOS is well-equipped to provide guidance and support. The company serves over 9,000 organizations worldwide, including the majority of the Fortune Global 500.

According to the "International SOS Risk Outlook Report 2025", more than half of the surveyed companies reported direct impacts from natural disasters in 2024. The supplementary "Extreme Weather Report" by the International SOS Foundation shows that many companies have developed emergency plans, but often do not adequately consider the impact on employees.

In light of this, International SOS recommends planning for possible disruptions in operations and travel, even for a period of a week or longer. Companies are advised to test crisis management and business continuity plans, clarify roles and responsibilities, and identify optimization potential.

To help companies prepare, International SOS has announced a new Disaster Preparedness Learning Offer. This includes a digital learning portfolio focused on natural disasters, consisting of five interactive micro-learning modules. The modules help employees prepare for various scenarios such as tropical storms, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and extreme heat.

In addition, International SOS recommends ensuring employees can work from home in case of an emergency, including technical equipment and emergency communication. Employee training on necessary supplies for a possible evacuation or on-site accommodation is also encouraged.

Furthermore, International SOS urges companies to evaluate protective options and transportation routes, and define clear thresholds and communication channels for the event of necessary employee relocation. Post-disaster, companies are advised to provide offers for mental health and well-being to support their employees.

International SOS, founded in 1985, has been saving lives for 40 years. The company has headquarters in London and Singapore, and offers a German-language service and news portal that informs readers about the topic of living and working abroad. The website provides information on current travel advisories, important travel warnings from the Foreign Office, helpful apps for travel abroad, and why Florida is a year-round holiday destination.

As the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season approaches, it is crucial for companies to heed International SOS's advice and ensure the safety of their employees and business continuity.
