Astana's May kicks off with festivals, sports and immersive art

Astana is gearing up for a busy start to May with a mix of cultural events and sporting activities. Public holidays, including Defender of the Fatherland Day and Victory Day, will bring concerts, performances, and exhibitions across the city. Residents and visitors alike will have plenty to choose from over the coming days. The celebrations kick off on May 8 with multiple performances. The Astana Opera will stage Aram Khachaturian’s ballet Spartacus, while the Abay Opera Theater hosts a concert dedicated to Victory Day. Meanwhile, the Zhastar Theater presents the festive concert Zhenis Zhyry (Song of Victory), and the Musical Theater of the Young Spectator will perform the musical Shamshi. For art lovers, the Catharsis Multimedia Art Gallery opens an immersive exhibition running until July 19.

On May 9, the focus shifts to sports and equestrian displays. FC Astana takes on FC Qyzyljar at the Astana Arena, while the Prestige Equestrian Club holds a horse parade. Later that evening, the Carpe Diem art studio will host a creative gathering for visitors. Outside Astana, the Central Asia Drift Show continues at ASP Arena Konaev in Almaty, wrapping up its three-day run.

The events mark a lively period for Astana, blending cultural tributes with entertainment. From classical ballet to football and interactive art, the schedule offers something for all ages. Many of the performances and exhibitions will remain open beyond the holiday weekend.
