Law and Order

According to the regional police department, high-powered low-intensity laser systems have been deployed on the Almaty–Ust-Kamenogorsk and Almaty–Khorgos highways. The innovative installations, mounted on overhead gantries, serve as an auxiliary road safety measure, particularly at night and in adverse weather conditions.

The beams create a visual effect that enhances driver alertness. The lighting is visible from a distance, acting as an additional guide for motorists, helping them maintain their lane and reduce speed in time. International test data shows that accident rates on roads equipped with laser systems have dropped by 40–50%.

Police officials noted that the adoption of cutting-edge technology aims to prevent traffic accidents and protect the lives and health of citizens. Drones, in particular, have proven highly effective: since the start of the year, 376 violations have been detected on Almaty region highways using unmanned aerial vehicles. The most common offenses include driving into oncoming traffic, ignoring road signs and markings, failing to obey intersection rules, and improper parking.

Pedestrians, cyclists, and moped riders remain a key focus for law enforcement. For instance, jaywalkers not only endanger themselves but also create hazardous situations. Recently, a large number of fines have been issued to pedestrians caught on drone cameras crossing highways in unauthorized areas.
