David Blaine Changes Allegiance from Resorts World to Wynn in Las Vegas
On Tuesday, renowned illusionist David Blaine revealed he will embark on a new Las Vegas residency, opening New Year's Eve weekend at the Encore Theater and continuing for 12 dates until May 11. This announcement stands out as Blaine has never before performed on New Year's Eve.
Yet, what's truly intriguing is what might have transpired behind the scenes, prompting this shift in plans. His prior "In Spades" residency took place at Resorts World from September 2022 to June 2023.
During his recent interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, questions regarding these behind-the-scenes events were curiously absent.
The official announcement by Blaine states, "I've spent my life building my magic by traveling around the globe discovering some of the world's most carefully guarded secrets, being inspired by the great magicians who came before me, and building on their legacy to show that even the impossible is possible."
Choosing a New Venue
A few years back, Blaine was in negotiations with Steve Wynn about a residency at his resort complex. It's evident that this venue served as a backup plan if anything were to go wrong during his previous residency.
Could this unforeseen event be linked to the shoulder injury Blaine sustained during a 80-foot drop onto cardboard boxes in March? After all, it resulted in the cancellation of his last shows at Resorts World on July 14-15.
The Encore Theater has a capacity of 1,480, which is significantly smaller than the Resorts World Theatre. Despite this, Blaine seems to be turning the situation to his advantage, emphasizing the word "IM" in "IMPOSSIBLE" to highlight "interactive magic."
Blaine explained to the Review-Journal that he plans to use this smaller space to engage with the audience, encouraging "everybody has cards and gets to interact back and forth with me."
Securing Your Seat
To catch "David Blaine: IMPOSSIBLE," make your way to the Encore Theater on the following dates: Dec. 29-31, Feb. 14, 17 and 18; March 27, 29, and 30; and May 8, 10, and 11.
Tickets, starting at $69.95 plus taxes and fees, will go on sale this Friday, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. PT through Ticketmaster.
