With over 820,000 followers on Instagram, Karl quickly responded to the incident in her Instagram story, stating that she terminated her professional relationship with Elisa Maria K. upon learning about the video. She also made it clear that she was disgusted by the content and did not want to raise her child in a society like the one portrayed in the video, as she herself is a migrant. The mayor of Kampen, Steffi Böhm, has also condemned the incident, distancing the municipality from any form of racism, discrimination, or xenophobia.
Karl, who has a large following on social media, was outraged upon seeing the video, which features chants of "Foreigners out" and what looks like a Hitler salute. Having been made aware of her assistant's presence in the video, she wasted no time in terminating their employment relationship. She publicly expressed her feelings in a story on her Instagram account, distancing herself from both the abhorrent content and the individuals featured in the video. As a migrant and an expectant mother, she found the situation repellant and unsuitable for the environment in which she wishes to raise her child.
The incident has taken the country by surprise, with many expressing disbelief and shock at the scenes recorded on Sylt Island, a popular tourist destination. The mayor of Kampen, Steffi Böhm, has also issued a statement, making it clear that the municipality supports the values of open-mindedness, tolerance, and diversity and strongly opposes racism, discrimination, and xenophobia.
