Casinos Don't Sleep: Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to Shut Down Poker Room for a Period of 2-3 Months
The iconic Caesars Palace on Las Vegas' buzzy Strip is shuttering its poker room for a refurbishment estimated to last between two to three months, as per a memo sent to employees and obtained by Poker News.
Regrettably, the overhaul isn't aimed at revamping the poker room's 18 tables. Instead, it targets the property's premium slot gaming section.
It's no secret that casinos can more easily manage without poker earnings compared to the substantial revenue generated from high-limit slots. Consequently, the poker room will tentatively serve as a temporary high-limit slot hub during the renovation period.
Assuming operations will cease around July 17, though nothing is officially decided yet, according to the memo. Interestingly, this date also coincides with the World Series of Poker final table, being held at other Caesars Entertainment properties like the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. Perhaps Caesars believes poker enthusiasts might overlook the inconvenience on that day, especially since it's also the last day of operations for The Mirage before its three-year metamorphosis into the next Hard Rock Las Vegas.
As per the Caesars Palace memo, Caesars Entertainment is scouring for a site to host a makeshift Caesars Palace poker room during the refurbishment. However, no viable location has been identified as yet, and there's no guarantee one will materialize.
Remembering the poker room's 10-year history, it was inaugurated just before the sportsbook and Mesa Grill, mere steps away from its predecessor that was swallowed by the expansion of the former Pure nightclub.
