'AGT' victor battles for survival at a Vegas medical facility.
Michael Grimm, victor of Season 5 on "America's Got Talent" and performing regularly at Vegas casino lounges, is battling an unknown illness. As per a video posted by his wife, the 53-year-old singer-songwriter has been hospitalized in Las Vegas for a week, with inconsistent vital signs.
Lucie Zolcerva-Grimm shared on Michael's Instagram this week, "I understand everybody adores Michael, and while I'd prefer to safeguard his privacy and his wish to keep things private, we're in a tough spot." She continued, "It's been an emotional rollercoaster."
Over the Memorial Day Weekend, three days after a performance at Piazza Lounge at Tuscany Suites & Casino, Grimm started having trouble lifting his head or engaging in conversations, according to his wife. He also suffered from tremors and episodes where he spoke nonsensical words.
On May 30, he was rushed to the ICU and intubated. Initial suspicions of a stroke were unfounded.
Doctors were finally able to remove the intubator on Tuesday, and he's breathing on his own," Lucie said. "However, due to the events of the past week, his body endured a lot. They still have him sedated to prevent seizures or cardiac arrest from irregular blood pressure."
She added, fighting back tears, "We don't know what's wrong."
More Trouble Ahead
Grimm doesn't possess health insurance, and medical bills are piling up. To help alleviate Grimm's medical expenses, fellow Vegas lounge singer Mark OToole (not the Frankie Goes to Hollywood bassist with an apostrophe in his name) has organized a benefit. The concert, featuring stars, will take place on July 9 at Veil Pavilion at the Silverton Hotel Casino Hotel.
Grimm became a household name during his remarkable run on "America's Got Talent" in 2010. He emerged victorious by singing "When a Man Loves a Woman," a song dedicated to Lucie, and proposed to her the next day on "Ellen."
