Actor Ben Savage, known for his role in 'Boy Meets World', announces his candidacy for Congress in California.

Actor Ben Savage, aged 42, famously known for his role in the '90s sitcom "Boy Meets World", aspires to switch his career path from Hollywood to politics, focusing on a political role in Washington D.C.

Savage portrayed the lead character, Cory Matthews, on the ABC sitcom for seven seasons from 1993 through 2000. He reprised the character in the reboot, "Girl Meets World" until its termination in 2017.

Currently, Savage dreams of moving from Hollywood to Capitol Hill through a political career. The former child star is eyeing a run for the US House of Representatives, representing California’s 30th District.

Savage is vying in a competitive field campaigning for the district seat currently held by US Rep. Adam Schiff (D). This heavily Democratic district covers a significant portion of Los Angeles, including Hollywood, Silver Lake, Echo Park, Pasadena, Glendale, and West Hollywood.

Savage, a Democrat, expresses his conviction that Congress needs a new face and someone who won't be influenced by lobbyists or special interests.

In a statement declaring his congressional bid, Savage stated, "I stand firm for what's right, support equality, and work towards expanding opportunities for all." He also highlighted his stance on enhancing public safety presence to maintain community safety and vibrancy. Savage's political agenda includes stronger checks and balances in law enforcement, aiming to eliminate corrupt cops and better serve underprivileged areas.

"I am a loyal Californian, a union member, and a long-time resident of District 30, coming from a family dedicated to serving our nation and community," Savage asserted on social media. "Together, we can achieve more."

Could Boy Become Congressman?

Assessing Savage's prospects to replace Schiff, who is seeking a Senate seat instead of re-election to the House, presents a challenge.

PredictIt, a leading legal political betting exchange in the U.S., hasn't launched any new betting markets since August. This was after the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) revoked its "no-action relief" letter.

PredictIt, managed by Victoria University in New Zealand, is challenging the CFTC's cease-and-desist order in federal court. However, the legal issue is causing a delay in political betting on the site, and new betting markets like the outcome of November 2024 for California's US House seat for the 30th District are on hold.

Savage's initial political venture didn't turn out as planned for the actor. In the previous year, he aspired to join the West Hollywood City Council but failed to secure a seat after securing only 6% of the votes.

Actor and Drag Queen in the Race

With Savage's entry, the 2024 race for California's US House seat for the 30th District now boasts at least eight candidates.

The competition includes an actor and a drag queen, Maebe A. Girl (D), a member of the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council, believed to be the first drag queen elected to public office in U.S. history.

The 2024 congressional race also features former Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer (D), California Assemblywoman Laura Friedman (D – Glendale), and California State Senator Anthony Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge).
