Three teams from North Rhine-Westphalia - Alemannia Aachen, Rot-Weiss Essen, and Arminia Bielefeld - have progressed to the first round of the DFB Cup after triumphing in their respective state cup competitions. Aachen, fresh off their promotion to the third division, secured the Mittelrhein Cup against Bonner SC with a 4:2 victory, having previously claimed the Regional Football League West title. Third-division Essen bested Rot-Weiß Oberhausen 3:0 in the Lower Rhine Cup.

Arminia Bielefeld, another third-division team, captured the Westphalia title after beating SC Verl 3:1, with two red cards in a heated clash between the two clubs. The match served as Fabian Klos's final game, as the beloved striker said goodbye.

Dustin Willms tallied twice for Aachen in Cologne (54th and 65th minutes), Anton Heinz found the net from a penalty (28th), and Sasa Strujic added two more goals (90th and 1st) to secure the win. Aachen struggled against Bonn, who opened the scoring through Serhat Koruk (14th), but were ultimately triumphant.

Sascha Voelcke (50th), Vinko Sapina (65th from the penalty spot), and Ron Berlinski (83rd) contributed to Essen's dominating performance in their home match on Hafenstrasse.

Arminia triumphed in their final match on the Bielefeld Alm, as Fabian Klos's record as player and goalscorer came to an end. Louis Oppie (4th and 19th) and Marius Wörl (82nd) each scored, while Verl's attack weakened due to red cards for Torge Paetow (62nd) and Niclas Nadj (75th) for a gross foul.

Excitement surrounds Mittelrhein Football Association, Niederrhein Football and Athletics Association, and soccer fans all over Westphalia as these teams make their mark in the DFB Cup.
