Revamping the Old Casino in the Style of James Bond

A German illusionist intends to execute a Bond-inspired transformation.

The Salzburger Nachrichten shares that German mentalist and negotiation expert Jack Nasher intends to revamp the previous casino in Austrian Bad Gastein, with a James Bond-inspired aesthetic. He aims to convert the space into an event center and seminar center.

With the renovation, Nasher wishes to instill a James Bond ambiance into the rooms. For this transformation, he has appointed the experienced American interior designer Adam Greco:

Greco boasts a wealth of expertise in historical objects. However, the cost remains uncertain – perhaps we'll just apply a fresh coat of paint. Jack Nasher, Mentalist and Negotiation Expert, Salzburger Nachrichten

Following Nasher's statement, Greco has reportedly had a look around Bad Gastein and the former casino. Known for his work on the historical renovation of the London luxury hotel The Ned, Greco is said to have left his unique mark on the establishment.

Investigating the Faded Glamour of the Former Gambling Den

The dilapidated casino is undergoing a thorough examination. It is reported that older paint layers are being removed from door frames to uncover the original layers. In aid of this, Nasher has enlisted the services of a construction researcher and restorer who will scrutinize the listed casino at the Grand Hotel de l'Europe:

I am arranging an expert report to ascertain the original state of the rooms. Jack Nasher, Mentalist and Negotiation Expert, Salzburger Nachrichten

Owing to its protected status, the old building is being collaborated with the Federal Monument Authority, as confirmed by conservator Eva Hody.

Characteristics of the Traditional Casino in Bad Gastein

Nasher has previously discussed his intentions to avoid reopening the casino in Bad Gastein. The casino, inaugurated with much fanfare in 1937, used to draw numerous visitors with its grand events and celebrity appearances. In its heyday, a visit to the casino was a special experience. The Bad Gastein casino is also noted for its distinctive charm.

On New Year's Eve 1982, Liza Minnelli graced the stage at the casino, which was broadcast live on German and Austrian television [Link in English].

Shirley Bassey and Charles Aznavour also performed at the casino in Bad Gastein. In 1984, the Miss Europe pageant took place at the traditional establishment.

The glory years of the casino, however, did not last. It ultimately shut down in September 2015, said to be plagued by financial difficulties for years. It stood vacant until Nasher purchased it in January 2024.

Continued Skepticism from the Residents of Bad Gastein

According to the Salzburger Nachrichten, the residents of Bad Gastein harbor doubts about Nasher. Previous buyers were heralded, but sales fell through several times.

Nasher's name does not appear in the building's registry yet. He has paid his equity stake and will finance the remainder through Salzburg banks. The purchase agreement was signed in January 2024.

Regarding the skepticism, Nasher told the Salzburger Nachrichten:

"I do not aspire to be the savior of Bad Gastein – I am not their necessity. Jack Nasher, Mentalist and Negotiation Expert, Salzburger Nachrichten

The fate of the historic casino Bad Gastein remains uncertain as we wait to see when Jack Nasher finally takes possession of the property and executes his ambitious plans."

After sharing his plans for the renovation, Nasher mentioned that he wants the news of the transformation to spread, making it a topic of interest in local and international 'News' outlets. Greco's unique style and expertise are sure to attract attention, and the resulting 'News' coverage could boost interest in the revamped casino.

As the renovation work progresses, Nasher and Greco hope their endeavor will be widely reported in the 'News', showcasing the revitalization of the iconic casino and its transformation into an event center and seminar center.

The closing of the long-standing Casino Bad Gastein occurred in September 2015.
