Vice President Kamala Harris praises Las Vegas Aces during White House visit
Vice President Kamala Harris didn't hesitate to praise the defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces during their recent visit to the White House.
Last September, the Aces won the 2022 WNBA Finals, defeating the Connecticut Sun 3-1 in the series. Both teams have strong ties to the U.S. gaming industry.
The Aces were owned by MGM Resorts when the team moved from San Antonio to Southern Nevada in 2017. MGM sells 2021 WNBA franchise to Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis.
Tom Brady has now taken a minority stake in the Aces organization. MGM retains a 42.5% stake in T-Mobile Arena, home of the Aces, and shares that stake with the NHL's Vegas Golden Knights. The Connecticut Sun are owned by the Mohegan Tribe, which operates the Mohegan Sun.
Eleven months after the Aces captured the franchise's first WNBA championship, Harris hosted the women's basketball team in Washington during an official visit to the White House.

The Aces achieved a record of 26 wins and 10 losses in the 2022 regular season, tying the Chicago Sky's best record. They advanced to the playoffs with a 2-0 series victory over the Phoenix Mercury, a 3-1 series victory over the Seattle Storm, and defeated the Suns in the finals.

Opportunity represents repetition
The Las Vegas Aces show no signs that they are ready to relinquish their dominance as a top team in the WNBA. The Aces finished the 2023 regular season with a 30-6 record and secured first place heading into the postseason, which begins Sept. 13.
DraftKings has -175 Aces to win the WNBA Finals for the second straight year. The New York Liberty have the second-lowest odds at +160.
A $100 win bet on -175 would return $57.14.
Second Gentleman Super Fan
The Aces visited Washington, D.C. the same week that Las Vegas star A'ja Wilson set the league's single-game scoring record with a stunning 53 points. While President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. While Jill Biden did not attend and was on vacation, Harris brought along Doug Emhoff, America's second gentleman, to the ceremony.
Harris called entertainment lawyer Emhoff "a true advocate for women's equality and empowerment and a devoted fan and supporter of women's sports."
Emhoff, speaking to the Aces, said he recently traveled to Ghana with his wife, where the WNBA partnered with NBA Africa to host the first all-women's NBA clinic in the impoverished country.
I'm a huge sports fan, especially women's sports," Emhoff told the Aces. "I hosted the first WNBA event in Ghana where a bunch of young girls played basketball. So the impact that you're having is not just here, not just in Las Vegas, not just across the country, but actually around the world. "
Emhoff said he is an Aces fan outside of their games against the Los Angeles Sparks. Harris and Emhoff own private homes in San Francisco and the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles.
