Princess Cruises to open its largest casino on $1 billion Sun Princess
Princess Cruises plans to launch its newest ship, the $1 billion Sun Princess, early next year. One of the cruise ship's many attractions is the largest casino area the company has ever built.
Princess Cruises, a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation, announced Tuesday that the Sun Princess will have 50 percent more casino space and 30 percent more gaming space than the company's Royal-class ships.
Sun Princess is scheduled to set sail in February 2024. The vessel is nearing completion at Fincantieri's shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.
Casino enthusiasts, high rollers or those who just want to try it out while on vacation will love the new Princess Casino onboard Sun Princess. " Princess Cruises President John Padgett said. "Princess has embraced the casino experience and is proud to offer such exciting gaming surrounded by world-class cuisine and entertainment. "
The Princess Casino on the Sun Princess is located on Deck 8 next to the Plaza. The Plaza is the large atrium and centerpiece of the Princess cruise ship. The company says the plaza is the "stunning centerpiece" of each ship.
The casino floor is nearly 9,000 square feet and features 227 slot machines and 13 live dealer tables.
Casino Value
Gambling is allowed once the cruise ship enters international waters. Casinos on major cruise ships, such as those operated by Carnival and its subsidiaries, are regulated by the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), whose regulations are modeled on rules established and enforced by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Almost all Carnival cruise ships have casinos. The game begins when a vessel reaches international waters, which are 24 nautical miles from contiguous U.S. waters, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce's Office of Coast Survey.
Sun Princess Casino offers connected progressive blackjack and poker table games as well as progressive slot machines. The casino will also feature a high-limit slots area with "premium seating."
Sun Princess' maiden voyage included the Mediterranean, Europe and the Caribbean.
The Sun Princess is a 175,500-ton cruise ship with 21 decks and 2,150 cabins. The 1,133-foot vessel offers an array of entertainment and attractions, including a high ropes course, a wading pool and a Sea Breeze Rollglider, where guests can glide around the ship on the upper deck and take in the panoramic views.
New Casino, New Games
In a press release from Princess Cruises, the cruise operator said the Sun Princess' arcade will feature the latest slot machine games. These include a unique Buffalo-on-the-Sea Zone, a designated area on the casino floor that houses many Buffalo-branded slot machines.
In addition to Buffalo games, Princess Casinos also integrates other games from Aristocrat Leisure. Sun Princess Casino also includes a new version of the company's popular "Love Boat" game, a themed slot machine based on the romantic television series that aired from September 1977 to May 1986.
