Firefighting activities - Youngster trapped in fencing of bear habitat

A young girl, age 5, found herself in a challenging situation when she tried to get a closer look at the brown bears in the enclosure at Gangelt Wildlife Park. Unable to see them properly, she decided to pull herself up onto the railing - but instead of getting a better view, she became stuck. Despite efforts from her mother, the child was unable to free herself, leading the local fire department in Heinsberg's North Rhine-Westphalia district to be called in for assistance.

As they arrived on the scene, the first responders worked to calm the young girl and her slightly older brother before taking action. "They fetched a screwdriver to remove a part of the railing," explained spokesperson Oliver Thelen. With the help of the tool, the firefighters were able to free the girl's leg from the railing. Thankfully, the girl was never in any real danger throughout the ordeal.

The incident occurred at a viewing platform with a five-meter height, and there's also a body of water below, creating an additional level of risk. In the end, the family was able to go home, sharing a thrilling story with their kindergarten friends.
