Substandard performance in the initial game. - Young players from Gladbach require a stunning turnaround.
Honestly, after that devastating 2-6 loss against the youngsters of Kraichgau in the semi-final, winning the final seems almost impossible for Borussia. They need to make up for this huge deficit, but the coach and captain refuse to give up hope.
It was especially painful: the VfL talents couldn't even control their nerves properly before they found themselves 2 goals down. Blessing Makanda (2nd) and Max Moerstedt (8th) caught the Gladbach defense off guard. Kilian Sauck tried to level the score (10th), but the gap in skill was obvious: the Sinsheim team scored twice with aluminum. Paul Hennrich (48th), Florian Micheler (57th), and Leonard Krasniqi (74th) increased their lead to 5-1. Substitute David Arize managed to bring the score closer (79'), and Makanda scored the final goal (87').
Can we still salvage something?
Coach Oliver Kirch admitted the truth: "Hoffenheim were just better." However, he still holds onto hope: "Because we showed at times that we could do more!"
Captain Konstantin Gerhardt concurs: "We still have a second leg where we'll put everything into it!" He explained the 2-6 blow as follows: "It's tough when we concede the first goal in the first two minutes, and another one right after eight. After that, we gathered ourselves and actually played a decent game. But we allow a third goal as soon as the second half starts - and then it just gets brutally tough."
Sadly, the same seems to apply to the second leg as well. [
