Coming disruption for budding skills - Young HSV team exploring uncharted waters
Coach Pit Reimers, 40, had to form a new strong team after eleven players left and fourteen new additions came in.
And he achieved it! Hamburg's young players are currently in a good ninth place in the Regionalliga Nord with only one matchday left. The season concludes on Friday at relegated Spelle-Venhaus.
The off-season turnover won't be as significant as last year.
Already three players have announced their departures. Defender Dennis Duah, 20, will sign for third division's Dynamo Dresden. Midfielder Felix Paschke, 20, will play for Borussia Dortmund II (also in the third division). Togo international goalkeeper Steven Mensah, 21, is also leaving the club.
More players could join the trio.
Left-back Bent Andresen, 21, keeper Malte Brüning, 20, striker Ware Pakia, 22, central defender Emmanuel Ntsiakoh, 20, Theo Harz, 20, and Arlind Rexhepi, 20, have contracts expiring at the end of the season. It's still uncertain where their paths will lead.
Furthermore, it'll be fascinating to observe the players that the new U21 head coach, Loïc Favé, 31, will use in the upcoming series. Favé, who is now training as a football coach and supporting professional trainer Steffen Baumgart, 52, succeeds Reimers, who has been with HSV for seventeen years.
