Equine predators on the loose in Münsterland? - Young horse "Nuspli" fatally stabbed in the field
In Münsterland, is there a deranged killer targeting horses? The police are looking for witnesses via a social media campaign. On the peaceful pasture in Ahaus-Ottenstein, something sinister occurred on Tuesday night, leaving everyone baffled. Kim Rexing (31), owner of Nuspli, remembers seeing her animals at their open stable all day and night. "The following morning, my sister found our injured mare at the corral," she recalled. There was a fist-sized injury on the right side of the mare's chest.
The veterinarian's examination revealed that the cut went straight to the mare's lungs. As a result, the mare had to be euthanized. "It's like I've lost a family member," Kim Rexing said, distraught.
Unfortunately, her young son (5) demands answers to his questions about what caused this horrible act and why Nuspli could no longer live. The motive and identity of the perpetrator remain a mystery.
Following the brutal attack, the mare managed to escape the stable by breaking through the fence. Ahaus police spokesman, Frank Rentmeister, stated, "Everything dictates that this injury was caused by humans. There's no indication of an accident."
Despite searching the scene diligently for any evidence, no traces were found. Authorities urge anyone who may have seen suspicious individuals or vehicles around Hörsteloe 41 pasture, or who has other insights, to contact the Ahaus police. The incident took place between 10 pm on May 27 and 9:20 am on May 28.
The recent attack has sparked widespread fear among horse breeders in the area as they fear more victims. Kim Rexing is now rallying support for harsher penalties against animal abusers, using an online petition. Currently, § 17 of Germany's Animal Welfare Act permits a maximum prison sentence of three years or a fine for killing a vertebrate.
