International Ice Hockey Tournament - Yay, we're experiencing another defeat.
Yay, we're losing again!
During the last World Cup in Finland in 2023, we experienced three losses in the beginning. However, we ended up with a silver medal.
In the Czech Republic, we managed to beat the Slovaks with a score of 6:4 before the two downs against them. The quarter-finals are still a possibility. We need to at least come fourth in the group.
Is it getting better?
But there was already a big blow. After the 1:6 loss against Sweden at around 11.30 pm in the hotel, Kreis had a stern talk with the team. His message: Enough is enough.
NHL all-star JJ Peterka (22/Buffalo Sabres) expressed his self-criticism: "Last year we felt better after the losses. And we also played together better as a team."
There is one thing that's certain: the losses need to stop now.
The last four preliminary round matches are today (4.20 pm) against Latvia, Kazakhstan (Friday), Poland (Saturday), and France (Tuesday) must end in wins. Three victories could be enough to reach the quarter-finals.
What inspires us: Nico Sturm is likely to return against Latvia after injuring the medial ligament in his knee. He's our best face-off man and has been training well.
Perhaps this will be the message today after the game against the strong Latvians: Yay, we're winning again!
