Hotel emptied - Wunderland Kalkar Experiences Severe Blaze
"A fire broke out in the fake ceiling of a guest room in the hotel section of Wunderland Kalkar," shared the local volunteer fire department on their Facebook page.
Fortunately, hotel patrons and staff were safely evacuated before any injuries occurred. The firefighters had to detach significant parts of the ceiling while putting out the flames.
Alternative Lodging Arranged for Affected Guests
The complex's operator facilitated alternative accommodation for the affected individuals. The entire operation took approximately three hours. The police department is looking into the origin of the fire. No information has been released regarding the extent of the damages.
"The multi-entertainment facility was originally an unused nuclear power plant (never connected to the power grid), a 'fast breeder.' In 1995, Dutchman Hennie van der Most bought the industrial site on the Lower Rhine and started transforming it into a recreation and amusement complex with fancy hotel rooms, comfortable restaurants, quaint bars, and a vibrant family park," as described on the website.
