### St. Pauli's Chess Team Wins World Champion Magnus Carlsen!
The chess team of Hamburg's iconic football club, FC St. Pauli, will join the Bundesliga in March. Not to be outdone by their football-playing counterparts, they've just made a major announcement—world champion chess player Magnus Carlsen (33) has agreed to join the club for the upcoming season!
Carlsen has held the title of World Chess Champion from 2013 to 2023 and is currently the world champion in both rapid and blitz chess. This is an incredible feat for the club.
This partnership was made possible by the Weissenhaus Chess Academy, founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Jan Henric Buettner (59). St. Pauli's chess team and Weissenhaus Chess Academy have struck a long-term deal together.
Buettner, an avid supporter of the Kiez club, commented, "FC St. Pauli has achieved incredible feats with its double promotion in soccer and chess. The club is the perfect partner for our long-term efforts to cultivate top-level chess in Germany and bring it into the spotlight. I'm thrilled that Magnus has decided to play for FC St. Pauli at our request."
Carlsen, the best player in the world at chess, expressed his excitement about working with the club, "I'm delighted to be part of the coolest brand in Germany."
The exact schedule for when Carlsen will play is yet to be decided, but he says he's eager to participate in several matches. The game day on March 22/23, 2025, at the Millerntor stadium has already been scheduled and is expected to be a huge spectacle.
