Woman From Las Vegas Detained for Beheading Partner Following Accusations of Child Abuse
One female resident from Nevada is accused of murdering her ex-partner and ultimately disposing of his head in the garbage. The Sin City TV station KLAS revealed this week that 45-year-old Devyn Michaels was brought before a judge for a separate child abuse hearing on the 9th of August. Here, she claimed she was not an abusive individual.
Seemingly unrelated to the recent matter at hand, Michaels appeared in court due to allegations of physical abuse inflicted on her eight-year-old daughter. A caretaker at a daycare center contacted the police after noticing bruises on the child's legs. She claimed her step-father was responsible for these injuries. The little girl, in turn, had expressed to her teacher that her mother had given her a "whooping" for consuming apple juice. Michaels admitted to hitting her daughter with a belt and receiving probation for a year in October 2022 for this.
As police continued to explore the situation, a new and even more horrific case soon occurred. On the same day of the child abuse trial, they began investigating a gruesome murder case in Henderson, eventually arresting Michaels for the killing and beheading of Johnathan James Willette, aged 46.
Crime Scene
Reports indicate that Michaels removed Willette’s severed head from the crime scene and motored it back to her Las Vegas residence to dispose of it in her trash bin. Apparently, she was allowed to take the evidence with her since a collection service picked up the garbage. Unfortunately, his head is yet to be found. The murder weapon, a meat cleaver, was also reportedly removed from Willette's home, but has since gone missing.
Upon visiting the scene of the gruesome crime, officers noticed a disturbing detail. Michaels, apparently, had used bleach and ammonia to clean up after the murder.
Johnathan James Willette's bruised and headless body was found by his own mother on his bed at his Pala Dura Drive home on the 7th of August. Michaels, who was not a resident of that location, recounted plans to move in with Willette.
Michaels Reveals Requested Act
The investigation also brought to light that on the night of the murder, Michaels was told by Willette to perform a sexual act on him. She disagreed and the situation escalated, leading to her allegedly killing him. Michaels later disclosed to authorities that she had hit Willette over the head with a wooden stick while the two were lying on the bed, but denied any role in the decapitation itself. She claimed she only intended to injure him seriously enough so he would need medical attention.
Last week, Judge Mary Kay Holthus overturned Michaels' probation for the child abuse incident. Subsequently, she now must serve a year in prison.
Extraordinary Relationship
Interestingly, Michaels was marriage to Willette's son, which meant she and Willette were in-laws, living under the same roof and having two daughters together. Michaels claimed Willette mistreated her as well as a child, and witnessed him observing a child bathing.
