Setbacks for Israel at the ESC - Will the Netherlands face disqualification?
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) stated: "At the moment, we're looking into a matter reported by us regarding a Dutch entertainer. He won't be practicing any longer until more information becomes available."
The nature of the incident is still unknown. The previous evening, Klein came under undesirable attention during a joint press conference with the ten victors of Eurovision Song Contest's second semi-final.
He repeatedly made remarks without being prompted and took issue with the Israeli ESC participant, Eden Golan (20), even going as far as hiding his face behind the Dutch flag when she expressed her thoughts.
This act was deemed potentially anti-Semitic due to Joost Klein's past supposed refusal to take a photo with Eden Golan earlier in the week.
During the conference, a question was posed to Klein about whether his song could bring everyone together. He initially appeared confused before replying, "I believe that's a suitable question for the EBU."
Another reporter then inquired of Eden Golan if her involvement in the contest could potentially jeopardize the security of other ESC participants and the public in Malmö.
She hesitated to respond. An ESC representative intervened, saying, "You don't need to answer that question." Joost Klein could then be heard shouting from off-screen, "Why not?"
Eventually, she responded, "The EBU has made considerable efforts to create a secure environment for all."
According to the Swedish newspaper "Aftonbladet," the matter in question against Joost Klein has nothing to do with his actions at the press conference.
It is believed that Klein was planning to deliver a assertion during the rehearsal of the dress rehearsal. Nevertheless, the EBU stepped in at the very last minute.
Klein's behavior at the press conference was not simply a comment directed towards the Israeli contestant. A video clip surfaced online showcasing Greece's entrant Marina Satti (37) resting her head on the table during the conference as Golan was being lauded for her advancement.
Then, Satti yawned dramatically while her competitor, who has received death threats over the war in Gaza and is given police protection in Malmö, was speaking.
This is most certainly unfair behavior!
