Dynamo Dresden: A Look at the Famous German Football Club - Will Mesenhöler remain on the bench?
Temporary coach Heiko Scholz (58) said, "We've asked him to play in goal to help him feel more comfortable prior to the Saxony Cup final against Aue."
The backup goalkeeper used to be the national cup goalie and he's never complained about his position.
Was Mesenhöler surprised to be included in the starting lineup for the last league game? "I had hoped a bit that I might get to play again. Then I was just happy to be selected," he admits.
It seems more and more likely that Mesenhöler will continue as the backup goalie. Scholz: "He trains wonderfully and is an excellent individual."
This is significant since it's possible for Mesenhöler to keep his cool even with a new goalie, Tim Schreiber (22). Would a new contract be rewarded because of his position on the bench? Mesenhöler: "I know where I stand and I can give my all on and off the field. It's reassuring to know that this is also recognized from the outside."
Both parties are discussing a new contract, but there's nothing official to announce yet. It could change as quickly as the goalie rotation.
Dynamo has already secured a spot in the DFB Cup by placing fourth in the 3rd division before the national cup final, so it's possible that Erik Herrmann could see his first action against Aue on Saturday. Herrmann was also on the bench against Duisburg. However, Mesenhöler can easily accept it as a team player and for a new contract...
