Loan players discussed by Bornemann - Will Kemlein and Banks Continue at St. Pauli?

St. Pauli's sports director Andreas Bornemann (52) has a lot of work ahead of him to put together a competitive team. The foundation is already in place, with no major changes planned, just selective reinforcements in specific areas of the squad.

There are still two loan players who contributed to the promotion: Aljoscha Kemlein (19), from Union Berlin, and Scott Banks (22), from Crystal Palace. Both will have to return to their parent clubs at the end of the season, but things might not go as planned.

The loan of midfielder Kemlein since January has been a massive success, playing in all 16 second-round games. There's a possibility of another loan or signing him, but that depends on whether Union Berlin agrees.

The situation with Kemlein and Banks!

Bornemann: "When the season ends, we'll discuss it. It all depends on Union. How do you see the development? Kemlein has certainly flourished with us. If it turns out well, he could be an option for his home club again. This makes it more complicated for us."

St. Pauli is keen on keeping Kemlein, but a loan is more probable if Union Berlin agrees. The cost of signing him permanently could reach up to 2 million euros.

Banks' loan deal wasn't so lucky. After three substitute appearances and impressive training sessions, the Scottish defender suffered a cruciate ligament injury in Braunschweig. He underwent surgery and has since returned to full training. There's a strong feeling that he'll fit well with St. Pauli.

Bornemann: "We've already had a feeler with Crystal Palace. Scott feels very at home here and was deeply sorry about the injury."

He continued: "A wonderful guy, an enormous talent when he's stable. We can picture continuing work with him if Crystal Palace agrees. The next few weeks will determine whether this can continue."

*It seems Bornemann is putting in a lot of effort to keep his two loan full-backs, hoping to take them to the Bundesliga.
