Lawyers for Giorgi are now conversing. - Why has the stunning Camila vanished?

No sign of former player Camila Giorgi (32) yet. Italian tennis player quit suddenly on Friday and is now untraceable, inaccessible to her home association and the tax office. It's rumored that she's in the US, evading tax authorities with a large debt.

Since April, there's an order for tax authorities to collect €446,000 directly from Giorgi's prize money. She apparently decided to step down before they could seize it. Her attorneys Federico Marini and Cristian Carmelo Nicotra are now commenting on the situation. They state that her resignation is unrelated to the tax issue:

"There was never any intention to evade the investigation or evade. Camila will return to Italy soon. The temporary separation from her Calenzano home is due to family conflicts and the need to take a break and reflect."

Giorgi's lawyers explain that her resignation wasn't sudden. It had been in the works for a while, especially with her contemplating a slower life during the pandemic. She was struggling with the competitive stress.

She's expected to be back in Italy by July 16 at the earliest. She's facing trial in Verona for faking a vaccination certificate. While she was in Australia for the 2022 Australian Open, she seemingly used a forged certificate. However, her family doctor was arrested a few months later, and the documents were found with her.

According to Giorgi's lawyers, she'll have the chance to clarify matters with the relevant offices. "Camila will be able to make all the necessary declarations, but it will all happen in the appropriate places."

Meanwhile, association president Angelo Binaghi (63) voices his remorse over the situation. He feels Camila had 10 times more talent than Jannik Sinner (22) and might've been number 1, not number 30.
