Should a direct rescue attempt fall through, - Why does Union discuss relegation so candidly?

Discussion has long been ongoing at Union about the two additional duels with representatives from the second division. The higher-ups have been urging their team to view these games as an opportunity to remain in the league.

The rationale behind this - maintaining a positive mindset throughout the relegation process. Union shouldn't feel intimidated or overwhelmed by the pressure of staying in the Bundesliga class.

However, if either Bochum or Mainz manage to accumulate a single point, Union's season will extend further. This has been a subject of discussion between the team and coach Urs Fischer (nicknamed "Grote").

Grote: "I've never shied away from discussing relegation with the squad since I took over. It's part of the current situation and needs to be addressed. Of course, we'll be keeping an eye on the situation with the players, but our main focus is the game against Freiburg."

Grote prefers a carefree and lighthearted approach in their match against SC, stating: "I'm still enjoying myself with this situation. It's all part of soccer - you've got to enjoy the game, even with the pressure present."

Most recently, club president Dirk Zingler (59) commented: "No one should fear relegation. There's another chance to achieve our goal across these two games. But of course, we'd prefer to avoid it."

Union needs three points from their game against Freiburg to achieve their goal.
