Elephant clan in India - While dozing off, elephants embrace each other.

Elephants resting with trunks on their chins and legs crossed: an aerial shot from India captures the adorable sleeping habits of these giant creatures.

In a video taken in the Tamil Nadu forest, a family of elephants is seen dozing off between bushes in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, a 370 square mile tropical jungle. The adults are seen lying side by side while the three calves, including a newborn one, are nestled behind them.

The little one in the middle moves its small ears back and forth as it fidgets. As per wildlife officer Supriya Sahu from the Tamil Nadu forest department, the young elephant is being safeguarded by its older companions. "The young one ensures the presence of other family members for reassurance," she explains.

This is not the first time elephants have been spotted dozing in this manner. In 2021, a well-known group of elephants in China decided to take a nap after covering a distance of 300 miles (approximately 483 kilometers) across the country. These animals slept in a protective circle around their young, snuggled in the tall grass.
