Effective tomorrow, customers can refuel at the gas station. - What's the quality of the latest eco-diesel model?
Eco-Diesel: The Green Alternative at the Pump!
Introducing HVO100, an environmentally friendly diesel fuel made with hydrogen and used cooking oil residues, which can reduce up to 90% of carbon dioxide emissions compared to traditional diesel.
▶️ What is HVO100?
HVO100 is created by processing used cooking oils and fat residues with hydrogen and energy into liquid fuel. This fuel gets its name from the process - "Hydrotreated Vegetable Oils," or "oils treated with hydrogen." The number 100 indicates its 100% purity level.
▶️ What are the benefits of using this eco-fuel?
The production of HVO100 from waste products like cooking oil residues is sustainable and eco-friendly. During combustion, it emits up to 90% less carbon dioxide than conventional diesel. Dr. Michael Haberland, President of "Mobil in Germany," explains, "Since the climate-damaging carbon dioxide (CO2) is absorbed during the growth of plant-based raw materials from the atmosphere, the fuel is relatively climate-neutral."
"Now, motorists have a genuine option at the pump between fossil fuel and eco-friendly. CO-neutral was previously possible only with an electric vehicle."
▶️ How can I tell the difference between HVO100 and conventional diesel?
HVO100 is colorless, whereas diesel B7 has a yellowish hue. A smell test revealed that HVO100 is pleasant compared to conventional diesel, with fewer chemical odors. Haberland said, "In terms of driving performance, HVO100 is equivalent to conventional diesel fuel. There's no loss of power."
▶️ What's the cost difference?
In some European countries, eco-diesel is already available. The extra cost compared to mineral oil diesel is about 5 to 20 cents per liter in these countries. "In Germany, the price is currently around 10 cents higher than conventional diesel," reveals Haberland.
▶️ Where can I get HVO100?
At standard gas stations. Some gas stations have already been distributing it as part of pilot projects. It may take some time before HVO100 is available nationwide, as gas station operators might need to install additional pumps and underground tanks for the new type of fuel. At the gas station, HVO100 will be labeled as "XTL."
▶️ Who can use this eco-fuel?
Drivers of diesel cars, but it's also suitable for trucks, buses, construction vehicles, diesel locomotives, and ships. Note that not all car manufacturers permit the use of eco-diesel in their vehicles!
To ensure your vehicle can be filled with eco-diesel, check your owner's manual or look for information on fuel types in the fuel filler cap. If nothing is stated there, contact your car dealer or the manufacturer.
