Deadly collision on Ku'damm. - What individual was exceeding the 30 km/h speed limit on the road with a 320 hp vehicle?

Three individuals - two men, aged 25 and 27, and a woman of 20 - are being treated at the hospital for severe injuries. The identity of the deceased has not been made public.

Originally, reports indicated that a man was the driver of the BMW involved in the incident, but a police source clarified that the current state of findings does not allow for that assertion with certainty.

The BMW, capable of reaching 250 km/h, began its journey along Kurfürstendamm around 1:45 a.m. It later proceeded along Tauentzienstraße going towards Wittenbergplatz. A lane in this area is closed due to construction, leading to a 30 km/h speed limit.

Eyewitnesses claimed the car was speeding excessively, but the exact speed remains undetermined. Investigators are looking into this matter.

The Berlin Police Department believe that no other vehicle was involved in the collision. The legal term for such an accident is 'solo race', which is a punishable offense if the driver "drives at an inappropriate speed and recklessly and carelessly drives to achieve the highest possible speed".

As the vehicle reached Marburger Straße, it seemed to have lost control. It moved towards the median strip and collided with a concrete barrier. The BMW then spun 180 degrees, came to a halt, and caught fire.

Citizens nearby hurried to help extinguish the burning vehicle but suffered from smoke inhalation in the process. Two police officers were sent to the clinic to receive medical attention. One passenger managed to save themselves, while two others required the aid of the fire department who were able to free them but sustained life-threatening injuries. Sadly, the woman perished at the scene of the crash.

The BMW bore Ukraine's license plates. The police refrained from confirming if the individuals inside were, in fact, Ukrainian citizens.

A specialized traffic crime unit is currently examining the case.
