Online footage emerged. - What could be the reason behind Real's grooming kit found in Bayern's referee's locker?
Matthijs de Ligt, 24, thought he had scored the equalizer for Bayern against Real in the dying moments of the game, but his excitement was short-lived. Referee Szymon Marciniak, 43, had already blown his whistle, deeming the goal offside. However, the TV footage seemed to suggest that the margin could have been closer to being onside.
People are now questioning why the assistant referee raised his flag early and didn't let play continue. This decision ultimately ruined a decent match for Marciniak and likely turned it into a game he'd rather forget. But, thanks to the internet, things have taken a turn for the worse.
A video is currently circulating online with Marciniak and his team in the changing room before another match. At first glance, it appears ordinary. But a closer look reveals a toiletry bag with the Real Madrid logo in the backdrop. There's no information regarding when the pictures were taken, but people are speculating they could be from a while ago.
Now, many are accusing Marciniak of having connections to Real Madrid. This isn't an uncommon occurrence in Spanish professional soccer. Other top-tier clubs also gift referees tokens of appreciation before the games. In 2017, images surfaced showing Villarreal FC officials complaining about the match referee leaving the stadium with a Real logo bag after a 3:2 defeat.
The Spanish referee committee later explained that the bag contained standard merchandising products.
Consequences may result from this decision for Marciniak in the semi-final. UEFA is currently investigating the matter. There are also rumors in Poland that Marciniak was initially scheduled to referee the tournament's opening game, which is now a subject of discussion again.
