Paul Ronzheimer's take on the ESC demonstration against Israel. - What audacity!
What's the deal?!
The clash between Israel and Hamas, as per demonstrators at the ESC, is similar to Russia's invasion of civilians in Ukraine - thus, Israel should have been barred from participating in the Eurovision Song Contest, just like Russia.
As a journalist, I've covered both conflicts and can attest: They're COMPLETELY different!
The person who views Israel as equal to Russia, and thinks defending against a terrorist organization is akin to a brutal war of aggression against peaceful civilians in Ukraine, just doesn't get it. Regardless of feelings towards Israel's military operations or a potential raid on Rafah: The conflict in Gaza was a response to the carnage on October 7 and the slaughter of 1200 Jews.
Ukrainians never attacked or slaughtered anyone, they were seeking peace. But Russia still assaulted the country, causing widespread terror.
Both Israeli and Ukrainian citizens should see this comparison as an outrage, as should the entire global community. Unfortunately, the ESC finals, of all things, illustrate how not to handle such situations: The ARD presenter mirrored the sentiments of the demonstrators - the Russia-Israel equivalence - without clarification, leaving viewers with the false impression that they're one and the same. This misinformation will surely be hailed as a significant victory by those who detest Israel.
