Werder's season-ending game vs Bochum - Werner: "It won't be a soccer celebration"
Werder Bremen could secure their place in the Conference League by defeating VfL Bochum on Saturday at 3:30pm if Heidenheim, Augsburg, and Freiburg all lose. The team currently sits in 9th place, and their opponents in 14th place are believed to be weaker.
The coach spoke about Bochum, stating "If you watch several of their games, you know that it's rarely nice to play against them. It's a team that runs at you one-on-one across the entire pitch and gets you involved in an incredible number of tackles."
He also said, "It's extremely difficult to just get forward from foot to foot with a clean passing game. Even Bayer Leverkusen couldn't manage that last week with the same number of players. You are forced to outplay the aggressive pressing. It won't be a soccer festival or a stroll in the park."
Werder typically has over 4700 fans at their games, placing them third in the Bundesliga. Fritz shared, "That's more than impressive, especially considering the often unideal kick-off times for our supporters this season. That's why we want to send them off with a win on Saturday and give something back to the fans."
The team's performance will be crucial in this "game where Bochum won't be hiding." Werner added, "It's important for us to assert ourselves in these situations and accept this game as a team and as a stadium for what it is."
