The opening match up is against Landesliga champion and promoter Verden 04, coached by Frank Neubarth, on July 14th at 4pm. This game serves as a warm up before the DFB Cup kicks off later in August.
Werder's professional manager, Clemens Fritz, explains that it makes sense for them to play away from home. "The pitch needs time to regrow after the football game at wohninvest Weserstadion and with the Hamburg Sea Devils having a game there this upcoming Sunday, the window of opportunity is limited. So, the grass escape goes to Rennes."
Fritz comments on the challenge of facing a strong opponent, stating, "It's going to be an intense test against a really good team. Our goal is to play two full games of 90 minutes without pause in order to prepare everyone for the upcoming season." There are plans for two games on this day, one at 11am and the other at 3pm.
