WarHorse Casino Omaha Introduces Sports Betting in Temporary Location

WarHorse Casino Omaha is anticipating sports betting soon.

WarHorse Gaming, a branch of Ho-Chunk, Inc., under the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, is constructing two physical casino complexes in Nebraska. The first one in Lincoln and another in Omaha, situated at the Lincoln Race Course and Horsemen's Park respectively. Nebraska legalized Vegas-style casinos at the state's six racing tracks through a ballot measure during the 2020 presidential elections.

WarHorse Casino Lincoln and WarHorse Casino Omaha are estimated to invest $200 million and $250 million respectively in their ongoing construction. Both projects are anticipated to be unveiled next year. Eventually, hotels with around 200 rooms each make up part of their expansion program.

Sports betting launched in June at the makeshift gaming spot in Lincoln. Soon, sportsbooks will be available in Omaha after the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission (NRGC) approved their application last week.

November Introduction

WarHorse Casino Omaha unveiled a transient casino in September 2022, featuring 400 slot machines and simulcast wagering on horse racing. This gambling establishment occupies the infield at Horsemen's Park.

Last week, the NRGC sanctioned a sportsbook to operate in WarHorse Omaha. To take sports wagers, the applicant has to fulfill certain conditions proposed by the state licensing process. The state commission said the opening date for sports wagering at this casino is no later than November 1, though the exact launch depends on an inspection and test run for the sportsbook's kiosks.

WarHorse Gaming partners with Kambi for their sports betting business. Kambi is a well-regarded supplier of sportsbooks in the tribal gaming sector. Whilst their Nebraska casinos are commercial operations, the Winnebago Tribe also operates the WinnaVegas Casino Resort in Iowa, a popular tribal gambling spot.

When Nebraskans decided to authorize commercial casinos at their six racing tracks in 2020, they also made sports betting legal. This permission, however, just allows gambling at the land-based facilities.

WarHorse representatives predict their Omaha sports betting operation will be more extensive than in Lincoln. Their optimism stems from the popularity of sports betting in that region. The swift access over state borders into neighboring Iowa enabled Omaha residents to legally wager in-person as well as via mobile devices starting August 2019.

Football Matters

Lynne McNally, Honcho at the Nebraska Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (NPBA), overseer of Horsemen's Park and Lincoln Race Course - strategic partners of Ho-Chunk for the respective casinos - believes time is crucial to begin sports betting operations in Omaha.

She expressed the desire to open the sportsbook as soon as feasible during the football season, as it dominates sports betting.

"Better late than never," commented McNally as she acknowledged the sportsbook receiving a delayed start at least until November. The seventh week of the NFL season occurred on Sunday; the ninth week of college football took place on Saturday.
