Dastardly suggestion - War Edge for Ukrainian Usyk Discussed by Fury or Fury Discusses Ukrainian Usyk's War Benefits

In the anticipated showdown of the century, Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk (37) emerged victorious, claiming the title of the unified, unhindered world champion of the four major boxing associations (WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO).

Following the intense match, Usyk asserted, "I believe I won the fight. He might've won a few rounds, but I won most of them." In response, Fury commented, "I think we both put on a great performance - the best we could. And, you know, his country is currently at war. His people support the nation at conflict."

Did Fury's defeat stem from the Ukrainian war?

It's highly unlikely. This high-stakes battle took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, garnering a near-consensus decision. The controversial verdict saw one judge favoring Fury, 114:113, while the other two declared Usyk the winner, with scores of 115:112 and 114:113. This was sufficient for the Ukrainian's victory.

Following his triumph, Usyk commemorated the occasion, declaring, "This was a tremendous chance for me, my family, and my country. Glory to Ukraine" They dedicated the victory to the Ukrainian soldiers combating Russia.

This achievement marks Usyk's crowning as the first undisputed world champion in 25 years. In 1999, Lennox Lewis supplanted Evander Holyfield in points, gaining the belts of the then-top three associations (WBC, IBF, and WBA). The WBO had yet to be considered at this level.

Dubbed the "Ring of Fire," the spectacle showcased Fury's eccentric antics at the start. Usyk, however, remained unfazed, launching numerous body blows. The hulking 2.06-meter-tall English boxer capitalized on his remarkable punching power and enormous reach, tormenting Usyk with his mighty right hand. Fury's impressive uppercuts and partial domination caused significant strain for Usyk.

Yet, Usyk rebounded in the eighth round, inflicting a bloody nose on Fury with cunning combination punches. The ninth round saw Usyk turn the tide completely, leaving Fury on the brink of an early defeat. Fortunately for "The Gypsy King," the bell spared him from defeat.
