What happened on the first day of the CAS event? - Vuskovic delivers address in legal setting.
The Croatian defendant struggled to maintain his composure throughout the hearing, vehemently denying any wrongdoing. The verdict as to his guilt remains inconclusive.
Both national and international anti-doping authorities (Nada and Wada) maintain their stance of Vuskovic's guilt, pushing for a ban lasting four years.
The court proceedings evolved into a scientific standoff, with each side presentation their views on the credibility of the opposing side's evidence.
Wada and Nada's defense strategy involved discrediting the scientific expertise of those who supported Vuskovic. On Tuesday, they reaffirmed the validity of the SAR-PAGE testing method.
The sole piece of evidence used to convict Vuskovic was the personal interpretation of a test strip.
Supporters of the player -including his legal team and club HSV- are optimistic that the judges, experts in sports law, will impartially evaluate the arguments.
Judge Jeffrey Benz, nominated by HSV, has a history of being lenient towards athletes. In 2019, he shortened the doping ban for German cross-country skier Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle (43) from 24 to six months.
Wrapping up the first day of the trial, Vuskovic exited the courtroom at 4:02 pm, accompanied by his family members, advisor Damir Smoljan, and legal team. Following closely behind were representatives of HSV, including Sports Director Jonas Boldt and legal advisor Philipp Winter, who observed the trial.
The trial will continue in Lausanne on Wednesday at 9 am, with the final session scheduled.
