On the A38 highway in the region of Thuringia, - Volkswagen strikes sign vehicle unintentionally.
Near Steinbach toll bridge, between the motorway interchanges of Leinefelde-Worbis and Heiligenstadt, a Volkswagen driver (51) didn't spot a parked vehicle used for signposting. The truck carrying the signpost vehicle was parked on the left lane to manage a construction site.
The driver of the Volkswagen crashed into the signposting car, knocking it off its construction vehicle anchor and sending it about 10 meters into the right lane. The main impact affected the driver severely, leading to hospitalization by emergency responders.
Substantial damage befell the signposting car, reducing the Volkswagen to nothing but scrap metal. Leftover wreckage hit a vehicle on the opposite lane, causing more damage. Natalie Meier, spokesperson for Autobahn police, announced, "The total damage is estimated at 40,000 euros."
The A 38 route to Göttingen was closed for recovery and clearing efforts.
