Dynamo Dresden emerged victorious in the Saxony Cup, beating FC Erzgebirge Aue 2-0 in a close match. With Greek player Panagiotis Vlachodimos scoring the decisive goals in his final game for the team, the victory was celebrated in front of a record crowd of 27,119 spectators. Both teams, Dynamo and Erzgebirge, were already confirmed to participate in the first round of the DFB Cup.

The intense first half witnessed several altercations between the players of both teams. Dynamo played aggressively in the beginning, creating two good chances through Stefan Kutschke (19, 29). However, goalkeeper Martin Männel of Erzgebirge was ready to make the save. Nearly 20 minutes into the game, Aue also began to attack. Niko Vukancic almost headed the ball into the net but was off target. In the final few minutes before halftime, Dresden keeper Daniel Mesenhöler prevented a goal by saving a low shot from Boris Tashchy (34').

In the second half, the match continued to be a cagey affair. Few clear-cut chances presented themselves to either team. The rare goal-bound moments were mostly in front of Männel. However, both Niklas Hauptmann (60') and substitute Vlachodimos (69') hesitated at the wrong moment. Erzgebirge had the chance to take a lead from a free-kick by Maximilian Thiel (73'), but he couldn't find the far post.

The remainder of the match saw both teams playing with an open goal. Aue started early in the additional time and forced Dynamo to make mistakes while building up their attack. Tashchy came close to scoring with a shot that required a miraculous save from Mesenhöler (78'). However, Dynamo failed to score in the regular time.

In the extra time, Dynamo started to create more attacking chances. However, these were not accurate enough to force the early decision. Only four minutes from the end, Vlachodimos scored twice for Dynamo and saved the day for his teammates and supporters.

The Saxon Football Association organised the tournament.
