Following 38 years behind bars, he requires a protected living space. - Violent killer Steigerwald to be released soon

Since 1986, Steigerwald has been incarcerated for brutally killing three individuals. With approximately 47 years spent behind bars, he's become a familiar face in the prison system. Steigerwald, having an IQ of 145, cold-bloodedly killed three young men between 1971 and 1985. He went as far as to cut off the penises of his victims and even amputated the head and legs from one of them.

Steigerwald's Gruesome Murders

For his first crime in 1971, Steigerwald received a 14-year sentence, but was discharged in 1980. He went on to commit two more murders, which earned him a life sentence by the Nuremberg district court. He was also identified as having a "grave mental illness," prompting his transfer to a closed psychiatric facility for over 30 years.

Expert Deems Steigerwald Harmless

In 2018, Steigerwald was moved from this facility to a regular prison and now resides in Straubing prison. Ahmed, a legal representative for Steigerwald, is vigorously advocating for his release, which is highly possible. A psychiatric professional determined that the 85-year-old no longer poses a threat to society.

The Expert Favors Early Release

Before Steigerwald's transfer to a normal prison, he was deemed too dangerous to be released. However, the expert believes otherwise now. Steigerwald remains fit enough to adapt to freedom, and it may become increasingly difficult for him to reintegrate into society if he remains imprisoned.

In 2016, Steigerwald testified as a witness in the tax evasion trial against Christine Haderthauer's now deceased husband

Lingering Housing Obstacles

Steigerwald's continued confinement is due entirely to a persistent housing issue. In order to grant his release, the Regensburg district court wanted him to have a supervised living arrangement. However, the promise of such a place has been made but never fulfilled.

The responsible district has refused to approve an application because Straubing Prison indicated that Steigerwald has "isolation tendencies," "lacks a social network," struggles with "housekeeping," and has "physical limitations." Ahmed expresses his frustration: "My client is considered too old for freedom? He isn't! He's healthy and can take care of himself."

In 2018, Steigerwald was transferred from the closed ward to the normal prison in Straubing Prison. According to a psychiatric expert, the convicted triple murderer no longer poses any danger

Ahmed's Frustration with Straubing Prison

Ahmed has reapplied for the financial coverage of a residential facility. If necessary, Steigerwald will pay for it on his own. Aside from his savings, he's made a significant income working in prison. The lawyer is severely disappointed with Straubing Prison's handling of the situation. It has delayed applications and failed to provide Steigerwald with appropriate housing, resulting in his continued incarceration. In Ahmed's opinion, "If the prison had done its job, Steigerwald would have been free decades ago!"

The renowned Munich lawyer Dr. Adam Ahmed (52) has been representing Steigerwald since 2013 and is now pushing for his client's release from prison
