Angry father targets Team Usyk - Violent clash ensues in hotel foyer.
Five days before the epic boxing match between Tyson Fury (35) and Oleksandr Usyk (37), tensions are already running high. A scuffle broke out on Monday between the teams of both fighters in a hotel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. John Fury (59), Tyson's father, was at the center of the incident.
Several Instagram videos show John Fury attacking two members of the Usyk team. In one, he shouts "Fury, Fury" repeatedly at one man, before headbutting another. During the attack, Fury senior sustains a cut on his forehead. In another clip, he is covered in blood and needs to be stopped from launching another attack by two bodyguards.
Apparently, John Fury was provoked by chants of "Usyk, Usyk." Following the incident, he apologized on the YouTube channel "Seconds Out": "Emotions and tensions are high. People don't understand that we are real fighters. What's important to me is respect for my son, and these people didn't show that."
John Fury is notorious in the boxing world for his aggressive and outgoing behavior. In August 2023, he caused a scene at a press conference by flipping tables and attacking his son Tommy's opponent (25/boxing).
The Most Anticipated Heavyweight Fight of the Century
The highly-anticipated boxing match between Fury and Usyk is considered the biggest heavyweight fight of this century. On Sunday night, one of the two boxers will leave the ring with all four major world championship belts (WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO).
The last major unification fight occurred in March 1999 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, when Evander Holyfield (61) and Lennox Lewis (58) faced off.
