"Won't go for the highest-stakes option" - VfB manager Wehrle talks about the Champions League.

Thanks to sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth (45) and coach Sebastian Hoeneß (41), Wehrle's decisions were spot-on. Wehrle expressed his appreciation: "Both are a blessing for VfB, as we work together closely and trustingly."

Planning for the upcoming season has been ongoing since January. VfB requires a diverse squad for international competitions. The recently acquired players Yannik Keitel (24/SC Freiburg), Justin Diehl (19/FC Köln), and Nick Woltemade (22/Werder), who joined on free transfers, are essential to the team.

Wehrle has no intention of spending exorbitant amounts on the transfer market, despite participating in the Champions League. Instead, he'll rely heavily on this season's successful squad. He ensures: "We aim to maintain our team as much as possible."

However, the future of attacker Serhou Guirassy (27) is uncertain, as he can leave VfB this summer for €20 million due to a clause in his contract. He could potentially earn significantly more at clubs like Bayern. Wehrle expresses optimism: "Serhou is comfortable with us and understands his role in the team. Everyone desires to play in the Champions League, which is possible with VfB as well."

Strike partner Deniz Undav (27) is another potential departure, as he's valued at around €20 million. This is a sizable sum. Wehrle: "We're having productive discussions with Deniz and his representative. He feels at home at VfB. The likelihood of him remaining has increased."

Wehrle has already made decisions for Hoeneß and Wohlgemuth. Does he feel satisfied that his plan has worked? Wehrle: "No. My focus was always to benefit VfB with my choices. I aimed for VfB to become a respectable Bundesliga club with a potential for international competition. It's heartening to have achieved this objective and to have secured our position."

In summary, VfB can anticipate a promising future.
