Vegas Music Roundup: Tiesto in, Xtina out, Sphere back from the dead?

Starting January 19th, DJ Tiesto will be the resident artist at FontainebleauLIV Nightclub in 2024. The newest casino resort on the Las Vegas Strip announced the news on Twitter/X on Thursday, along with a video of the performance.

Tiesto also happens to be a guest at Omnia Nightclub at Caesar Palace, Tao Beach Dayclub at The Venetian, and Wet Republic at MGM Grand.

Behind the lack of commitment from superstar DJs/producers is a political drama that is described in excellent detail in this article of our ownVital Vegas Blog. For our purposes, however, it is enough to note that "Tiesto" is clearly not the Dutch word for loyalty.

The ball is set to dead ball

Members of Dead & Company were among a dozen artists reportedly considering a residency at Sphere following U2's departure in February, according to the New York Post.

The rumors were fueled by the fact that the band was working with powerful U2 manager Irving Azoff, who was also a booking consultant for The Sphere.

On July 16, the band played the final concert of what was supposed to be their final tour in San Francisco. But we've heard it all before.

Phish, also a jam band, are the only band to have announced a post-U2 break so far, but only for four concerts from April 18th to 21st. The most popular major resident music stars include Harry Styles and the Eagles (also Azoff clients), as well as Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney and Bon Jovi.

Wait, there's a new name.

Miley Cyrus has also spoken to Sphere Entertainment CEO James Dolan after initially turning down an offer from MGM to do the residency, according to British newspaper The Sun.

With Dolan paying unprecedented fees to U2, Sphere may have difficulty getting any bands to commit. The Irish rock band reportedly received 90% of ticket sales as well as $10 million in production funding, which was undoubtedly the only reason they agreed to do so without having to wait for their founding drummer to recover from shoulder surgery come over.

Dolan can no longer make such an offer, but he shouldn't be forced to. U2 got this payday as the venue's guinea pigs. If the space technology doesn't work for some reason or the venue doesn't sell out, the U2 brand will be tainted along with the Sphere.

Of course, neither happened.

Xtina Cancel

Christina Aguilera performs Friday and Saturday, June 5-6. In January, Voltaire was canceled, just a week before the new Venetian venue opened over the New Year's weekend.

After sending New Year’s greetings to everyone on stage in Las Vegas, I was greeted with the New Year’s Flu! ! ! ”, she wrote on Instagram.

Aguilera's dates will be rescheduled around her next dates (February 2-March 2).

Refunds are available through VoltaireLV.com.

If Christina Aguilera had dressed warmly when she started her internship, she might not have gotten the flu. I'm just saying that.
