Vegas Music Roundup: J. Lo Cancels Concert Tour and Invents a Reason, Minaj's Continuing Saga
Jennifer Lopez has called off her summer tour of the US, as stated by promoter Live Nation in a press statement released on Friday. The pop icon is allegedly "taking time off to spend with her children, family, and close friends."
Interestingly enough, this excuse for cancelling a tour mirrors that of anyone who has lost their job and needed to provide a reason.
According to Variety, the true reason behind the cancelled "This is Me ... Live" tour was poor ticket sales. In fact, seven shows were secretly cancelled due to lack of interest. On July 20, a whopping 30% of the 19,500 seats at T-Mobile Arena were still unsold by Wednesday.
Apologetic, J-Lo, 54, shared her sentiments on her website: “I am heartbroken and devastated to let you down. Don't worry, I won't do this unless it's absolutely necessary. I'll make it up to you - we'll be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time.”
Previously, Lopez was in talks for a fall residency at the Park Theater at the MGM Grand. But it appears that ship has sailed.
Those who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster will automatically receive refunds. Other buyers who went through third-party platforms such as SeatGeek, StubHub, or VividSeats will need to contact those sites.
Nicki Minaj: Two's Company
Superstar Nicki Minaj is back at the MGM Grand Garden Arena for a second installment of her "Pink Friday 2" world tour. The first leg took place at the T-Mobile Arena on March 8th. Tickets went on sale today on AXS.com.
Bill Walton Honored by the Dead
Photos of the late Bill Walton were displayed during Dead & Company's residency show at the Sphere on Thursday. The former Boston Celtics center, who passed away from cancer on Monday at age 71, was one of the world's most dedicated Grateful Dead fans. Walton, who had an estimated 1,000 Dead concerts under his belt, had been hailed as a "best friend" by drummer Mickey Hart.
