St. Pauli's goalkeeper distraught after a tough loss. - Vasilj discusses his mistake in the derby game.
Coach Fabian Hürzeler comforted his goalie Nikola Vasilj following the 1-0 loss to HSV. When Robert Glatzel netted the winning header, Vasilj leapt to prevent a corner from Miro Muheim.
The result was heartbreaking for Vasilj, who displayed impressive form throughout the game and stopped a few HSV scoring opportunities. The showpiece: He denied Ludovit Reis' penalty late into the match.
On the corner that led to the decisive goal, Vasilj commented, "I moved out on the corner kick since the ball was heading towards the far post. I was hindered a bit and couldn't reach the ball." However, there was no noticeable obstruction as with the whistled goal in the 62nd minute. He stated, "It was undeniably a foul."
The Bosnian keeper was distraught by the defeat in the derby: "It's extremely bitter for me and our team, naturally. It was a 50-50 game where we fought hard and held our own. To lose after a corner is even more infuriating."
Marcel Hartel, too, extended some sympathy to Vasilj: "I don't lay the blame on Niko for conceding the goal. He decided to act, and I completely agree with his actions."
