Upcoming online gambling expos are being organized.
Amidst the worldwide health crisis caused by Covid-19, which is causing massive economic damage, the gaming industry is also facing significant changes. Tradeshows like ICE Asia, ICE North America, and BET iGaming Expo have decided to go digital this year. Here's what we can expect from these online events.
ICE Asia Moves Online
ICE Asia, a major gaming tradeshow in the world, was supposed to take place in Manila from June 8 to 10. However, due to the pandemic, the organizers - Clarion Gaming and SiGMA - have decided to hold a "digital show" instead. The event is scheduled for three days, focusing on gaming in Asia, local operators, and technical advancements in the gambling industry. Additionally, key industry stakeholders will discuss the future of gambling after the pandemic.
Manila, which is home to a significant gambling hub, has been severely affected by Corona, prompting a series of panel discussions and keynote speeches at the event. Participants can join these via video links. Kate Chambers, Managing Director of Clarion Gaming, said:
"We sympathize with the global gaming community, who are weathering the effects of Covid-19. This is an unprecedented time, and our team will remain open to communication."
The CEO of the SiGMA Group, Eman Pulis, commented on how the pandemic "presents a unique opportunity to rethink how we live and work." The goal is to provide modern solution strategies and business opportunities that cater to the current challenges faced by the industry. Collaboration has become more crucial now, said iGamingBusiness.
ICE North America Adapts as Well
ICE North America, located in New Orleans, has followed suit by organizing its own digital version. Taking place from May 11 to 15, the event will offer a "well-rounded selection of discussions, expert insights, and food for thought." Rory Credland, the event director, noted that high-caliber speakers are expected.
The in-person event has been postponed until spring 2021. Participants can look forward to three hours of presentations each day about innovations in gaming and sports betting. Panel discussions on the pandemic are also planned. According to Credland, the industry should "find a way to come together" and use this time as an opportunity to reflect.
Kate Chambers, Managing Director of Clarion Gaming, also voiced her support for the event:
"It's a highly dynamic situation right now, and I'm overseeing all events planned for the next 3-6 months. ICE Totally Gaming in London is the only one that's gone ahead as planned this year."
BET iGaming Expo Goes Virtual
The organizers of the BET iGaming Expo in London have also adapted. The event started online on April 9. The organizers are grateful to be able to host the event despite the ongoing coronavirus crisis. They said:
"Fortunately, we live in a world of digital technologies, and we have the opportunity to utilize these options. For that reason, the BET 2020 team has decided to hold the event online for the first time."
With around 2,500 digital visitors and 20 speakers from the industry expected, the event can now be streamed online. European regulatory authorities will also be present at the virtual trade fair, discussing the future of digital player protection. The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) recently introduced stricter age controls and advertising guidelines on social media. The upcoming conference "Betting in Face of COVID-19" on April 19 will focus on alternative betting options in e- and fantasy sports.
The impact of the pandemic on the gaming industry is significant, with the sports betting sector being one of the worst-hit. However, these digital tradeshows are a novel initiative to help the industry adapt and move forward.
