Moscow Links Unveiled - Unimportant allegations against the SPD's Russia documents in Lower Saxony
The CDU is suspicious of a possible "Russia connection" within the Lower Saxon Social Democrats and has been requesting access to files for over a year. However, progress is slow.
Now, FDP state leader Konstantin Kuhle (35) is stepping in, pushing the red-green state government to release all relevant documents. Additionally, the state parliamentary groups of CDU, SPD, and Greens are being encouraged to take swift action.
The CDU is seeking access to all documents indicating economic, cultural, and political interactions with Russia during Stephan Weil's (65, SPD) term in office, which started in November 2013. The State Chancellery and all ten ministries must provide the necessary information.
Earlier, the state government provided 8,000 pages to the state parliament in the summer and another 9,500 at the end of 2023. A government spokesperson estimates there are approximately 41,000 pages in total.
In his letter to the CDU, the spokesperson also commented: "The SPD-led state government in Lower Saxony was part of a policy in recent years that overlooked Putin's real intentions. To this day, certain members of the Lower Saxon Social Democrats hold a naive and idealized view of Russia that doesn't align with the truth about the imperialistic state that is disrupting the peace order in Europe daily."
The Russian Federation has not faced legal consequences in the state parliament.
He holds the state parliamentary groups responsible: "It's time for actions to follow the desire for clarity."
